LAMP SHADE PROJECT

I had bought a new lamp last year and one year later the fabric on the lamp shade started pulling apart from the wire frame of the shade.

Was it time to buy a new lamp shade or  time to turn this into a RONNIEDEANART PROJECT ?

Here is what I came up with.

Removing the fabric from the wire frame and replaced it with chicken wire .

After cutting the chicken wire about the same size as the fabric I began wiring starfish about every 3″ all the way around and trimmed the chicken wire to the shape of the starfish.

Wiring sea glass I found on the beaches here in Hawaii and some glass stones from the craft store my lamp shade has taken the shape of my own Tiffany lamp.

Using glass glue and wire I continued adding sea glass all the way around the shade and about half way up the shade I noticed how heavy the shade was getting and I had to finish the lamp shade off with something much lighter, here is what I came up with.

Running out to the craft store I was in search of something light weight that could be used to finish off the top of the lamp shade and there it was,  a natural hand made paper  that looked like the color of sand and perfect to go along with the sea glass and starfish.

The paper came in a full sheet about 16″ x 20″ and I cut it into squares about 4″ x  4″.

I formed the squares over the tip of my finger making rosette looking flowers and then dipped the tips of the paper in fabric stiffener and inserted it through the chicken wire and pressed the tips together.

We love our new lamp shade.
